Saint Basil of Mangazeya.
Saint Basil was born in Yaroslavl in 1587. As a young man he was apprenticed to a merchant in Mangazeya in Northern Siberia. His employer frequently made improper advances to the young man, and finally, furious at being constantly repulsed, and hating him for his purity, he blamed Basil to the governor for a theft of which he was innocent, and while torturing him to extract a confession from him he struck him on the head with his keys and killed him, in the year 1600. He buried him in a swamp to conceal his crime, but in 1652 the Saint began to reveal himself in dreams to the inhabitants, a light began appearing over the swamp, and finally his coffin arose out of the swamp and his holy body was found in it completely incorrupt. A chapel was built there, and his holy relics treasured in it worked miracles of healing. Since he suffered martyrdom to preserve his chastity, Saint Basil is honored as a Virgin Martyr.
