The holy Martyr Calliope.
The holy Martyr Calliope contended in the reign of the Emperor Decius (249–51). Being beautiful in both body and soul, she was taken by the pagans as a Christian, and for refusing to offer sacrifice to the idols or to deny Christ, she was violently tortured. Her breasts were cut off, but an angel was sent to heal her; she was dragged over potsherds, her body was burned, salt was rubbed into her seared flesh, she was abraded with hair-cloth, and finally she was beheaded.
